Photography Categories
We have chosen three exciting and diverse categories for our photo club competitions. Each category is designed to challenge your creativity and technical skills in a different way. You can choose to focus on one category or submit entries to all three. Be sure to provide a full paragraph of descriptive text for each category you participate in to explain your work.
Wildlife
The wildlife category is dedicated to capturing animals in their natural habitats. This theme challenges photographers to be patient, quick, and unobtrusive. From the majestic flight of an eagle to the quiet grace of a deer in the woods, wildlife photography tells a story of life in the wild. We are looking for images that are not only technically excellent but also evoke an emotional response and showcase the behavior and beauty of the animal kingdom. Submissions can range from powerful portraits to dynamic action shots. The key is authenticity; photos of domesticated animals or animals in captivity are not eligible for this category.
Still Life
Still life photography is the art of arranging inanimate objects into a compelling composition. This category allows for complete creative control over lighting, arrangement, and subject matter. It's a fantastic way to experiment with concepts like texture, shape, and color. From a simple bowl of fruit to a complex arrangement of vintage items, the possibilities are endless. We are looking for images that transform everyday objects into art. Think about the story you want to tell and how you can use light and shadow to create mood and drama. This category is perfect for photographers who enjoy meticulous planning and have a keen eye for detail.
Nature
The nature category encompasses the vast and varied beauty of the natural world, excluding wildlife as the primary focus. This can include sweeping landscapes, intimate details of plants and flowers, and dramatic weather phenomena. Whether it's a grand mountain vista at sunrise, the intricate patterns on a leaf, or the raw power of a thunderstorm, we want to see your perspective on the great outdoors. This category celebrates the earth in all its forms and encourages photographers to connect with their environment. The goal is to capture the essence of a place and to convey the feeling of being there. Get out and explore the world around you; beauty is everywhere.
